@Terry Gilmour – Autism is not a disease or an illness. You probably have known many Autistic people, you just didn’t realise it. If you are reading this you are conversing with an Autistic person.

Autism is a difference in brain wiring. We aren’t missing, broken, damaged, diseased, toxic, tragic, marriage ending, without souls, lack empathy or any of the things you’ve heard.

We Are People.

We have social anxieties, we have varying levels of sensory issues, we have communication issues, we have developmental delays, not stops, delays.

We Are People

We have co-occuring condtions like epilepsy, dyslexia, dyspraxia/ataxia. Some of us are verbal, some are not, most of us are both. The co-occuring conditions cause a lot of the medical issues and suffering. As does how people treat us.

I would not trade being Autistic, it is who I am and I accept me as I am. It is society that doesn’t. It’s articles like this that make my life harder.

Stop looking for why – we are here, now. We have always been here, we will always be here. We have advanced society in ways Neurotypial people can’t even begin to imagine.

We Are People – vital, loving, worthy of our place in society, people.
